Maintaining Confidence and Continuity Through a Complex College Acquisition

Challenge
San Joaquin Valley College, Inc., which oversees SJVC, agreed to acquire Carrington College, a complementary institution with a shared focus on career-centered, accredited education. The acquisition required regulatory and accreditation approvals, creating an extended period between the initial announcement and final transaction approval.
Leadership needed to keep employees, faculty and students informed and engaged throughout the process while addressing questions, minimizing uncertainty and ensuring both colleges remained focused on serving students. Clear communication was also necessary to reinforce that SJVC and Carrington would continue operating as distinct educational institutions.

Strategy
Linhart developed a communications strategy focused on transparency, consistency and stakeholder confidence. The approach centered on helping internal audiences understand the purpose of the acquisition, what it meant for their day-to-day roles and how it supported the long-term mission of both institutions.
By equipping leaders with clear messaging and communication tools, the team created an aligned approach that reinforced trust and reduced uncertainty at every stage of the transaction.
Execution
Linhart developed a comprehensive suite of communication materials tailored to employees, faculty, students and external stakeholders. The team supported leaders with messaging guidance, anticipated stakeholder questions and coordinated communications across both organizations to ensure consistency throughout the approval process. Media engagement served as a secondary channel to reinforce key messages and provide external context about the transaction.
